Every once in a while a game comes along that changes you as a person. Not just because it is a great game (there are many of those), but, because of what it stands for and how it makes you feel. Back in 2005, Shadow of the Colossus was one of those games. It went without saying, it looked and sounded beautiful, coming from the studio that had created Ico some years before. However, it was more than that. It was about the message (I won’t spoil it), it was about realising what you were becoming as you progressed and how you, as a player, were made to feel whilst doing so. And, at the bitter end, it evoked real emotion.
Years later, and with the huge advancements in console tech, Sony & @BluePointGames have treated us to a wonderful remake. Allowing those who cried before to do so once again, and those lucky enough (yes – count yourself lucky if you are yet to experience this piece of gaming history) to have never played it, do so in the most beautiful of ways.
It looked great way back when, but now, it looks stunning. The landscapes are some of the most magical views you’ll ever see coming out of your TV, and the Colossi, wow! Thanks to the photomode (one of the best products of the generation), you can see some of my own shots below, diarising my time in Shadow of the Colossus’ ancient plains.
If you haven’t yet played the PS4 version, I really do hope these screens evoke an emotion or desire to do so. I promise, you are in for a treat! Thanks for visiting.

Thanks for this nice post. I didn’t have a console by the time it first came out (I only played on PC back then). But I remembered how the gaming world got crazy… Your post was the last push I needed 🙂 I’ve added it to my backlog. Thanks.
